Project One: Mock Collection

In FASH145: Technology in Fashion my final project tasked me with assuming the role of a designer, merchandiser, and sales rep to utilize my unique pattern designs for product development with a brand of my choice.

Skills

  • Design

  • Creativity

  • Brand Alignment

  • Time Management

  • Software Proficiency

  • Concept Development

Background

  • I began this project with creating 6 unique patterns, each with two colorways that aligned with my inspiration and could fit my chosen brand of Carhartt/Carhartt WIP.

  • I was moved by the intricate interior and exterior architecture of gothic cathedrals and the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, Spain and I drew inspiration for my shapes, patterns, and colorways. The name Gótica is directly translated from Spanish to the English word Gothic.

Process

  • It took about two solid weeks of editing and designing of the collection itself, this is where my time management skills heavily came into play to get the work done.

  • 95% of the collection was created on Adobe Illustrator, and the rest on Adobe Photoshop from a moodboard to help concept development. I traced all garments, added the patterns, carefully picked the colorways, and added all details to bring the collection to life.

Purpose

  • Carhartt is a brand typically associated with blue collar men, so I wanted to change things up while still aligning with their brand audience. I wanted a stylish workwear and comfortwear to be made available for blue collar women.

  • Whether this collection finds comfort amongst blue collar women, my goal was for it to reach all women who love Carhartt and long for new, unique designs on a warm, comfortable garment for the Fall Winter season.

Outcome

This collection was a success and left many impressed with the attention to detail, effort, and designs. It aligned with Carhartt’s testimony and paved a new selection for womenswear. I was able to dedicate my time and creativity into producing something inspirational and appealing to my target audience.
