Process-My Favorite Challenge
-
This took me about a few hours to complete. It involved me spending time on matching colors, selecting fonts, searching for logos, and using Adobe Illustrator to piece it together.
-
I was given a non-vector image for reference so I was able to trace outlines with the Pen tool and then divide it and make the cutouts. Once I had my Pantones I changed the colors, added the logos, and placed the closest font together and center aligning everything.
Companies I Work With Daily
-
On the East Coast, SANS is the #1 printer for CustomInk. We receive dozens of orders every day, every week, all types of quantities. I am prepping the file and assigning the correct Pantones so it is ready for print.
-
BreakingT is a company that sells apparel and accessories for the world of sports through professional and major league licensing at local retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lids, and Fanatics. Like Custom Ink, I am prepping their artwork for print and in constant communication with them daily for art approvals.
Art Department Leaders
-
Gannon is the SANS Art Director with years of experience and also served as a Marine. He is extremely skilled in Illustration, Graphic Design, Painting, 3-D Creation, Color Separations and more. He also has a wide range of knowledge about color, design, and screenprinting.
-
Shradda is the Lead Graphic Specialist and is a VCU bio alum. She knows the in’s and outs of Illustrator and Photoshop and has a great eye for creativity and problem solving. I have to thank her the most for always helping me when I need it.
Outcome
SANS Screenprint is my father’s company he started in 1996, which has become very successful in the apparel and manufacturing industry. I began working here when I was 16, but in May 2021 was when I began to take an interest in being involved in the Art Department.
This summer was more special working here as it was full time in the summer and I had to become more responsible and balanced with my workload, schoolwork, and time. I work with super talented individuals who have taught me so much with editing, designing, color theory, and having an eye for all things art and creative.
Being able to memorize Pantones, how to type on a path, knowing how to make an underbase for screenprinting, etc. is so important and I value my experiences at SANS so much.
